Adapted Housing

All clients requiring a wheelchair accessible or adapted property are expected to participate in choice-based lettings and place bids on properties that are available.
The below outlines how the process works and what support is available.

Properties

There are four property types. The icon will be found in the advert both online and in the printed version

  • A properties have full wheelchair access
  • B properties have part wheelchair access without adapted kitchen
  • E+ properties have easy access, and possibly a special adaptation such as a level access shower
  • F properties are our general needs properties

Clients

There are four client types and their bidding is restricted as follows:

  • A clients can bid for A properties only
  • B clients can bid for B and A properties but will always come behind an A client
  • E+ clients can bid for E+ and B properties but always come behind a B client
  • F clients can only bid for F properties

Bands

Each client is put into a new Band, based on an assessment by an occupational therapist or medical officer. The band will also reflect any existing priority such as overcrowding. Priority is given to those awaiting a move from hospital, temporary accommodation or step down accommodation

Bidding Support

Those in need of further advice on how to bid or with a query regarding their housing application should contact the Council’s telephone advice line on 0207 525 5950 for further guidance. If clients want information on their assessment, or about how to get their existing home adapted the Occupational Therapy service can be contacted on: 0845 600 1287

---------------------

All our registered clients in need of an adapted are contacted in writing, advising them of band and property type.

Clients may well ask when properties will be ready or why there are not any in their area of choice: We only have what is available through either re-let or new build (Housing Association). When properties are ready they will be advertised.
